With the New Lunar Year fast approaching, the Diocese of Brooklyn is helping their Asian parishioners prepare for the holiday with some celebrations of their own. Persecuted Chinese Bishop’s Reversal Sends Shockwaves

After living under house arrest for four years for leaving the Catholic Patriotic Association, Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin was revealed to have rejoined the state-sponsored church, which is not recognized by the Catholic Church in Rome. Currents correspondent Konrad Aderer asks Bob Fu how this reversal has shaken Chinese Catholics’ faith in Vatican negotiations with China.

Leading up to the annual March For Life, Tim Harfmann speaks with Laura Montes, a 21-year-old mother of two baby boys. The pro-life supporter is a devote Catholic at St. Anastasia Church, Douglaston, but admits she considered abortion because of her age.

The Tablet Gives Catholic Kids High Marks in Art

Every year the Tablet, along with the Knights of Columbus at Archbishop Hughes Council, gives the children of Brooklyn and Queens a challenge- to create a piece of art with the message “Keep Christ in Christmas.” And the kids have yet to disappoint- this Advent season the paper received the most entries ever! Now the Tablet have picked their winners and are celebrating the best budding artists of their grade. Katie Engesser was at the awards ceremony and filed this report.

Workshop Helps Immigrants With Citizenship

Catholic Migration Services is well known throughout the Brooklyn Diocese for their help with immigrants. But this Saturday, in partnership with Brooklyn Borough president Eric Adams, they will aid a huge amount of people in their journey to citizenship. The workshop is on naturalization and has become so popular that a second session is already in the works. Katie Engesser talks with those in charge of the event and filed this report.

Fr. Jeffrey Dillon

Father Jeffry Dillon, a former police officer who turned in his badge so he could serve in the precinct of the Lord, is the administrator at Christ of King and St. Mary Madeline Parish. He has received degrees in social work, counseling, senior health, and mental health.  He has also helped out at St. Clement Pope Parish in Ozone Park.

Catholic Youth Day Strengthens Faith

At one of the Brooklyn Catholic Youth Days, nearly 500 middle and high school students gather at St. Margaret’s Church, Middle Village, to evangelize the faith. The young Catholics attend Mass with Auxiliary Bishop Paul Sanchez, pray during adoration and celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation.
