The Most Reverend Thomas Vose Daily, Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn, died late last night at the Immaculate Conception Center’s Bishop Mugavero Residence in Douglaston, Queens. Bishop Daily Called to God

Bishop Daily shepherded the Catholics of Brooklyn and Queens from 1990-2003. His fluency in Spanish served him well in the Diocese of Immigrants. Another hallmark of Bishop Daily’s tenure was a vibrant defense of the sanctity of life. He even clashed with then New York Governor Mario Cuomo over the politician’s pro-abortion position. Ten months after reaching the mandatory retirement age of seventy-five, the Vatican accepted Bishop Daily’s resignation. Then Pope Saint John Paul II appointed Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio as the seventh Bishop of Brooklyn. Today, he reflected on the passing of his predecessor.
