NY Catholic Youth Day
Most people are familiar with World Youth Day, but most don’t realize that parishes, dioceses, and archdioceses around the world embrace that concept and host small-scale events of their own. The Archdiocese of New York recently hosted New York Catholic Youth Day, encouraging young people from the 5 boroughs and beyond to get involved and take an active interest in their faith. They offered an incredible line-up of guest speakers and musical performances, culminating in an outdoor mass with Cardinal Dolan that, for many, was the highlight of the day.

A big change for the Catholic Church in honoring one of the most important women in the Gospels: The day dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene is now an obligatory celebration. Pope Francis elevated July 22 from an optional memorial to a feast day last month. To many, this decision signals that he wants to highlight the crucial role of women in the church and encourage them to keep up their ministry. World Youth Day Kids Tour Dublin
The Pilgrims of St Patrick’s Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn have landed in Dublin, where they are touring some of the holiest spots the city has to offer. The young group’s spiritually rich itinerary includes Trinity College’s Book of Kells, which is an illuminated manuscript in Latin that contains the four Gospels, and St Patrick’s Cathedral, built in honor of Ireland’s patron saint. Diverse Priests Serve Brooklyn for the Summer
About eighty priests from more than a dozen countries are serving Brooklyn and Queens during the summer months, bringing their own cultural experiences to the Diocese of Immigrants. Nigeria, Ghana, Columbia, Cuba, Haiti, the Philippines, Poland and Romania are among the countries represented. Brooklyn Diocese Sends Group to World Youth Day
