Twitter Change Helps Diocese of Brooklyn’s Social Media

Beginning Monday, September 19th, Twitter users will be allowed to tweet photos, videos and links without losing the 140 characters. John-Mark de Palma, DeSales Media Group’s digital operations manager, speaks to Tim Harfmann on how the new change will help the Diocese of Brooklyn’s social media accounts.

Liz Faublas gives the rundown for the September 14th edition of Currents, including the outcome of the New York Primaries, a report that says that Brooklyn has the highest rate of what is known as “food insecurity,” an upcoming clean-up process for the MTA and subways!

MTA Cleans Up Tracks

According to experts, the New York City Subway is the dirtiest transit system in the country. The MTA has started a campaign called “Operation Track Sweep” which is trying to clean all 469 subway stations in two weeks. Katie Engesser talks to riders about the scrub down that coming their way.

Brooklyn’s Food Gap

Though you may not see it with the thousands of new restaurants dotting Brooklyn’s streets, there is a deep concern over food insecurity. A new report from the Food Bank for New York City reveals the borough has the highest rate of people living with limited or uncertain access to adequate food. Perhaps more startling, it also has the highest percentage increase in the rate of food insecurity from 2009 to 2014, a time often imagined to be one of an improving economy. Michelle Powers visited one of Brooklyn’s most active food pantries, The Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, to take a look at how they manage. New Media Room Blessed

Last year, the Catholic Telemedia Network (CTN) commemorated its 50th Anniversary with a raffle centered on a Webquest. Teachers in the Diocese of Brooklyn were asked to review historical pictures and read the Network’s blogs to answer questions about its history. The prize at stake: a new media room–valued at nearly $100,000 dollars. Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Academy in Flushing won that raffle and today the room was blessed. Michelle Powers was there and filed this report.
