Come New Season, Entrance Ramp still Closed

For the last year, people have been climbing fences to get down to Shore Road Park at 97th street. After the foundation of the ramp collapsed last spring, the Department of Parks and Recreation closed off the dangerous area. Yet, they simultaneously blocked the most convenient entrance down to the ball fields used by some of the area’s Catholic schools. Michelle Powers spoke with residents who are tired of waiting.

Easter Vigil Brings New Life to the Church

The resurrection of Christ, the source of eternal life, is celebrated across the globe. Easter is also the occasion when new Catholics are welcomed into the Church. In Corona, Queens, a large number join St. Leo’s parish. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio bestows upon them the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. Tim Harfmann reports.

Good Friday Traditions in Bensonhurst

Timothy Cardinal Dolan pointed out that the holiest of days has always been a time of turmoil. “Think of that first Easter,” he said, “There were three soldiers guarding the tomb. Good Friday and Easter Sunday have always been a little risky.” And Good Friday is commemorated in a special way as thousands fill the streets of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn to participate with Bishop DiMarzio in the Way of the Cross.
