Imagínate que eres una niña de doce años, tímida y estudiosa. Con una maleta pequeña en mano, cruzas unos campos de papa y maíz junto a tu abuelo. Llegas hasta la carretera que te llevara a Quito. El le hace señal a un autobús y lo abordas. Le dices adiós a tu abuelo. Desde ese momento, y durante las cinco semanas que te restan de vida, estarás en compañía de desconocidos, incluyendo polleros: traficantes de seres humanos contratados por tus padres para que te llevaran a Nueva York. Pero nunca llegaste.

En esta edición de Tu Fe Al Día, hablaremos sobre este fenómeno, los niveles históricos a los que ha llegado, casi 60.000 se esperan en el 2014. Es una crisis humanitaria a la que debemos responder todos.

Imagine you’re a twelve year old girl, shy and studious. With a small suitcase in hand, you cross potato and corn fields alongside your grandfather. You come to the road that takes you to Quito. Your grandfather signals a bus and you approach it. You say goodbye. From that moment, and during the five weeks you have left of your life, you’ll be in the company of strangers, including coyotes – human traffickers contracted by your parents to take you to New York. But you never arrive.

In this edition of Tu Fe Al Día, we speak about this phenomenon and the historical numbers that have arrived. Nearly 60,000 are expected in 2014. It is a humanitarian crisis that we all must respond.
