Help Holy Land Christians
On Good Friday a special collection will be taken up in every Catholic church to support Christians in the Holy Land. Fr. Elias Mallon of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association explains that the Christian population in the Middle East is diminishing due to conflict and struggle. Join Bishop DiMarzio as he visits St. James Cathedral on Good Friday 2015 for the 20th Way of the Cross over the Brooklyn Bridge sponsored by Communion and Liberation (http://wocbrooklynbridge.org). Then it’s off to St. Finbar Church in Bath Beach/Bensonhurst Brooklyn for the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday commemorating the day Jesus died for us. A large procession of faithful parishioners joined the Bishop thru the streets of Brooklyn in honor of this event.
Readying the Way of the Cross
This Good Friday, the Movement of Communion and Liberation will start The 21st Way of the Cross at st James cathedral, carrying the cross into Manhattan. Currents correspondent Konrad Aderer joined some of the coordinators on the Brooklyn Bridge in preparation for the two thousand people expected to commemorate the Passion of Jesus this year.
Diocese of Brooklyn Chrism Mass
Chrism Mass is one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of the Catholic Church. It is marked by the ceremonial blessing of the oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick, and consecration of the oil of chrism, which will be used in all churches of the Diocese of Brooklyn throughout the liturgical year. The oils are used to anoint the sick, baptize catechumens and infants, ordain priests, and anoint altars. This Mass is celebrated in dioceses around the world, including Rome. Our correspondent, Michelle Powers, reports.
The Cross Comes to Life
The seventh and eighth graders of St. Pancras School act out Christ’s passion and death in their annual “Living Stations.” The Stations of the Cross is a Catholic tradition that goes back to the early Christians and, as Katie Breidenbach reports, it is brought to life again by the Glendale students.
Good Friday Walk for Peace Brings Together Sister Churches
On this Good Friday, parishioners of St. Mark and St. Margaret Mary will walk the bridge from Sheepshead Bay to Manhattan Beach, praying the rosary and meditating on the stations of the cross together with their wider community. Arizona Unique with Early Voting
Voters in three more states will select the candidates they want to see get their parties’ presidential nominations.
