Fr. Thomas Vassalotti

We chatted with Father Vassalotti in the garden area of St. Frances of Paola parish in Williamsburg, a worship site of Divine Mercy parish.  Father Vassalotti spoke about the special challenges facing him as a man who choose to become a priest later in life.  He also talks about his life as a professional musician who played the bass in the orchestra for several Broadway shows.

10 New Priests for the Diocese of Immigrants

St. Joseph Co-Cathedral is packed as Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio ordains 10 men to the priesthood to serve the Church in Brooklyn and Queens. Seven of these new ministers were born outside of the United States; boasting of roots as diverse as the diocese itself. Currents Correspondent Katie Breidenbach reports from the Mass of Ordination.

The men ordained are: Fathers Gesson Agenis, Yvon Hector Aurelien, Victor Manuel Bolaños, Mark Bristol, Ralph Edel, Lukasz Kubiak, Uririoghene Melchizedek Okrokoto, Ambiorix Osorio, Jaroslaw Szeraszewicz.

Postal Worker Intends to Sue

Glenn Grays, a postal worker who says he was falsely arrested by police, plans to sue the city. Today a lawyer for Grays said he’s been traumatized from the incident. Michelle Powers filed this report.

D-Day Medic Remembers Omaha Beach

A medic on Omaha Beach, Joseph Chiofalo’s mission was to save lives. This veteran received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart for his actions during World War II. Ahead of the 72nd anniversary of D-Day, he shares his story. A lifelong Catholic, Mr. Chiofalo is currently a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church in Queens. Today, Monsignor Jamie visits Di Palo’s Fine Foods, the long running market that has been family owed and operated since the 1900s. Owner Lou DiPalo shows Monsignor what makes a great cheese while discussing the importance of hard work and family. Back in the kitchen, Michael Russo from the famous Gargiulo’s in Coney Island joins Monsignor Jamie to make a simple and delicious breakfast casserole. They speak about how Gargiulo’s became a staple in Brooklyn due to the hard work of Mr. Russo’s family.
