Baker, Educator Honored for Helping Children

Two community activists receive the “Hero of the Month” Award from Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. Maria Nitti is the founder of “Operation Birthday Party,” holding monthly celebrations for children at the CAMBA Flagstone Family Center, a shelter in Brownsville. Rose Graham, vice principal at PS 399 in East Flatbush, develops programs to help students both in and out of the classroom. Both are given citations and, as Currents Correspondent Katie Breidenbach reports, Maria receives a surprise from the Borough President.
