On the same day Mother Teresa was canonized at the Vatican, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio celebrated a special mass at Our Lady of Victory in Bed-Stuy. It is within this church that the saint established a convent for her Missionaries of Charity and even personally visited. Michelle Powers attended the occasion many had been waiting for.

A New Statue of the Newest Saint
Though she was born in Albania, Mother Teresa has a deep connection to the nearly one million Indian-Americans living in New York. Two of which are Remy and Flavia Almeida from St. Sebastian’s Church. In honor of her canonization, the Almeida’s are donating a statue that will be unveiled September 6th.
