Cristo Rey in Baton Rouge has been forced to relocate to a temporary location, after last month’s floods nearly destroyed the building. Tim Harfmann reports from East Flatbush, where Brooklyn students and faculty wore red ribbons and collected donations to assist their peers 1,300 miles away.

Brooklyn Waterfront Reflects Refugee Crisis
Pebble Beach at Brooklyn Bridge Park was transformed as hundreds of life jackets brought home the sobering reality of the refugee crisis to New York City. These life jackets were collected from the beaches of Chios, Greece and were used by adults, as well as children, making the journey across the sea. The stark reminder comes just days before the United Nations Summit for Refugees and Migrants and the Leaders’ Summit hosted by President Barack Obama take place in New York City. Michelle Powers went to Brooklyn Bridge Park and filed this report.

Cemetery Mass Remembers Irish Immigrants
As part of Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s 175th anniversary year, Brooklyn Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Chappetto celebrated Mass in the local cemetery. The small graveyard is the resting place of Irish immigrants who fled the famine in the 1800s.
