The “Great American Smokeout” gives people everywhere the chance to put down their packs and create a healthier lifestyle. In its tenth year at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, the smokeout included an art show, cancer screenings, informational sessions and a panel discussion aimed at finding a successful path to quit. Monsignor Quinn Closer To Sainthood
At the national conference for U.S. Catholic prelates, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio introduced Monsignor Bernard Quinn for canonization. Monsignor Quinn ministered in the Brooklyn diocese in the early 20th century and is renowned for helping black Catholics. Along with building a medical clinic and helping orphans, Monsignor Quinn founded St. Peter Claver Church in Brooklyn. Tim Harfmann speaks with Monsignor Paul Jervis, who is responsible for promoting the priest’s canonization cause.

Ozone Park Couple Helps Injured Puppy
Tim Harfmann reports from Ozone Park, Queens, where Joseph and Jillian Capo are nursing a Yorkie puppy back to health after it was hit by a car. The dog savers are parishioners at Holy Family Church, Canarsie, and had to take out a loan for the animal’s emergency surgery.
