For kids with autism, connecting with other people is often difficult. But thanks to a special program getting some praise from the White House, autistic kids can learn to socialize while also having a little fun. Currents reporter Katie Engesser went underground and filed this report.

Public School Kids Called To Religious Life
Brooklyn diocese vocational director Father Sean Suckiel is used to going around the diocese to talk to kids about vocations. But this time he visits Holy Child Jesus Catholic Academy’s religious education program in Queens to speak to the public school children. Ozone Park Couple Helps Injured Puppy
Tim Harfmann reports from Ozone Park, Queens, where Joseph and Jillian Capo are nursing a Yorkie puppy back to health after it was hit by a car. The dog savers are parishioners at Holy Family Church, Canarsie, and had to take out a loan for the animal’s emergency surgery.
Our Lady of Charity in Jackson Heights
When Pope Francis visited Cuba, the people there gifted the Holy Father with a replica of the country’s patroness, Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre. Pope Francis then brought the statue with him to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, USA. The treasure is now touring the United States. One of its first stops, St. Joan of Arc Church in Jackson Heights. Michelle Powers was there and filed this report.
Safety Improvement for Greenpoint Catholic Academy
After years of fighting with the NYC Department of Transportation, St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy had an elevated crosswalk and speed bump installed near its school building. With help from local government officials, the Greenpoint elementary school is increasing safety for over 200 students.
Convocation for Brooklyn Diocese Vocation Committees
As part of Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio’s push for vocations, every parish in Brooklyn and Queens is creating a committee. To conclude the national Vocations Awareness Week, the Brooklyn diocese held a convocation for these members, where they encouraged one another’s ministry and shared ideas.
