While Waiting for Asylum, Migrants at Border Not Allowed to Stay in U.S.

Under a new, expanded deal between the United States and Mexico, migrants are now unable to stay in the U.S. while waiting for their asylum cases to be decided.

I.C.E. reports that currently about 7,000 deportations occur per month, but is vowing to step up enforcement to coincide with President Trump’s threat to deport millions who are now in the country illegally.

Father Patrick Keating is the leader of Catholic Migration Services, an organization whose mission is dedicated to welcoming the stranger in our midst.

He joins us to discuss the crisis at the southern border.
