Much of the country faces extreme heat and high humidity over the next few days.
According to the National Weather Service, over half of the continental U.S. is likely to see temperatures of 95 degrees or higher.
Officials say anyone without air conditioning could be at risk, especially the elderly and children.
Senior centers with Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens are extending business hours to serve as cooling centers.
“All of us seniors need to be concerned about drinking enough water, staying hydrated, and not being out in the sun without a hat,” said Urchin Kennedy, one senior who is beating the heat.
The cooling centers provide water and air conditioning, and you do not have to be a member of the senior center to get relief from the heat.
For more information about cooling center locations, you can reach Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens at 718-722-6001.
