The Vatican is preparing for the Christmas season with a not-so traditional nativity scene.

Some seven-hundred tons of sand will be used to construct the scene of Christ’s birth.

The creators have been sculpting sand nativities in Italy for years and their goal this year is to build the largest one in the center of Rome.

The sculpture will be inaugurated on December 7th and will remain on display at Saint Peter’s Square through the holidays.
