An alleged act of divinity has gone viral.

Parishioners in a Greek Orthodox church that is facing bankruptcy are claiming that an image of the Virgin Mary held in their church was weeping.

Church leaders are taking notice and trying to remove the icon to get it authenticated, but the worshippers are against the move.

“The metropolis of Chicago asks the faithful to remain vigilant and also reminds them that while it is indeed possible to experience the divine through temporal objects, our faith rests not on ‘signs,’ but on Christ crucified,” read a statement by church leadership regarding the weeping icon.

Parishioners say they haven’t given up hope and will continue to fight  to keep their church and the image of the Blessed Mother.
