This year, though, controversy swirls on the sidelines as marchers parade past St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the rain. The clamor is over the future of Columbus statues in New York, particularly the 125-year-old monument at the southwest corner of Central Park. Some want it removed, while others fiercely defined it.
