A fire at an e-bike shop in the Lower East Side has left four people dead and two others in critical condition on Tuesday at midnight.
City officials said the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery.
The bike shop, known as HQ E-Bike Repair, was part of a six-story mix-used building on Madison Street, which was occupied by multiple tenants.
The area was known to the FDNY, and had been cited previously for violations in 2021 and 2022.
