Brooklyn’s Food Gap

Though you may not see it with the thousands of new restaurants dotting Brooklyn’s streets, there is a deep concern over food insecurity. A new report from the Food Bank for New York City reveals the borough has the highest rate of people living with limited or uncertain access to adequate food. Perhaps more startling, it also has the highest percentage increase in the rate of food insecurity from 2009 to 2014, a time often imagined to be one of an improving economy. Michelle Powers visited one of Brooklyn’s most active food pantries, The Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, to take a look at how they manage.
