First Feast of the “Apostle to the Apostles”

A big change for the Catholic Church in honoring one of the most important women in the Gospels: The day dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene is now an obligatory celebration. Pope Francis elevated July 22 from an optional memorial to a feast day last month. To many, this decision signals that he wants to highlight the crucial role of women in the church and encourage them to keep up their ministry.
